Java

Java is an island in Indonesia located in the Greater Sunda Islands and is the 13th largest island in the world . The population of Java is around 150 million. Java is inhabited by 60% of the total population of Indonesia. This figure has decreased compared to the 1905 population census which reached 80.6% of the total population of Indonesia. The decrease in population in Java in percentage terms was due to the movement of people ( transmigration ) from Java to other areas in Indonesia. The capital of Indonesia is Jakarta and is located in northwest Java (precisely at the westernmost end of the Pantura Route ).

Java is bordered by Sumatra to the west, Bali to the east, Kalimantan to the north, and Christmas Island to the south. Java is the 13th largest island in the world . The waters surrounding the island are the Java Sea to the north, the Sunda Strait to the west, the Indian Ocean to the south, and the Bali Strait and Madura Strait to the east.

The majority of the population speaks three main languages. Javanese is the mother tongue of 100 million Indonesians, and most of its speakers live on the island of Java. Most of the population is bilingual , speaking Indonesian as either a first or second language. Two other important languages are Sundanese and Betawi . The majority of the population of Java is Muslim . However, there are still a variety of beliefs , religions, ethnic groups, and cultures on the island.

The island is administratively divided into six provinces , namely West Java , Central Java , East Java , and Banten , as well as two special regions, namely DKI Jakarta and DI Yogyakarta .

The myth of the origin of Java and its volcanoes is told in a kakawin , called Tangtu Panggelaran . The ethnic composition of Java can be considered relatively homogeneous, although it has a large population compared to other large islands in Indonesia. There are two large ethnic groups on the island, namely the Javanese and the Sundanese . The Madurese can also be considered a third group; they originate from Madura Island which is located north of the east coast of Java, and have migrated en masse to East Java since the 18th century. The number of Javanese is about two-thirds of the population of this island, while the Sundanese reach 25% and the Madurese reach 4% or almost 5%..
